YFloat

YFloat™ is an advanced, floating, steel foundation that provides a stable and efficient platform for wind turbines. Its design builds on Aker Solutions' well-proven offshore technology.

Floating steel structure for offshore wind

Key features

  • The symmetrical design of YFloat around a central column enables efficient pre-fabrication and local assembly. This design approach reduces material usage and simplifies the manufacturing process.
  • YFloat is based on flat panel structures, a proven Aker Solutions design previously used for semi-submersibles for oil & gas
  • Tubular connections between pontoon and box beams with the same dimensions as the tower ensure effective load transfer. This enhances the structural integrity of the floater, reducing maintenance costs over its operational life. —> performance and levelised cost of energy (LCOE)
  • Low OPEX: The passive sealed-ballast system enhances stability and keeps the maintenance scope to a minimum
  • The YFloat has undergone extensive development and testing, including model tank tests to validate its design and performance, and meets the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
  • The YFloat is designed to support large turbines (15+ MW). Its scalability allows for the deployment of larger, more efficient turbines, which can generate more power and reduce the LCOE
